To get the right size for your lathe you need to know what your lathe swing is. A lathe swing could also be called a swing over bed or just swing, they are all the same thing. It could be written on your lathe however, if its not, there is an easy way to figure it out! The easiest way to figure out your lathe swing is to put in a live or dead center in your tailstock and measure from there. You have to take measurements from both ways to make sure you get the closest one! Measure from the closest way up to the center of your live center. From there you double it and round down. Even if its close to a whole number round down to the next whole number. As you can see Im measuring about 6 5/8 from the closest way to the center.
