One thing to call out before we jump into this, today were creating an electronic signature. Thats basically an image of your handwritten signature, and that differs from a digital signature, which is a certificate that validates your identity. Thats out of the scope today. You do a blank endorsement by simply signing your name on the back of the check. Then, when youre at the bank, you tell the teller if you want to cash it or deposit it. People will also do a blank endorsement when theyre depositing a check through an ATM or using mobile deposit.
If a check is issued to two people, such as John and Jane Doe, the bank generally can require that the check be signed by both payees before it can be cashed or deposited. If a check is issued to John or Jane Doe, generally only one payee needs to sign the check.
