To create a new Pad or Via template, right-click within the panel then select Add Pad template or Add Via template from the context menu. Use Delete to remove a template from the Library. The panel provides access to Templates contained in the current Pad Via Library. Right-click to add a new Template.
(Click and hold an Active Bar button to access other related commands. Once a command has been used, it will become the topmost item on that section of the Active Bar). Click the button on the Wiring toolbar. Right-click in the design space then choose the Place Wire command from the context menu.
You can change the layer while routing with ctrl + shift + mouse wheel. This will allow you to place a via and continue routing on the new layer. you can use p+v (hold p then press v). it is a helpful shortcut then you can change the size with pressing tab.
Press / on the numeric keypad to insert a via and release that connection (use this for fanouts). Press 2 to insert a via and not switch layers (continue routing on the same layer). Ctrl+Click to instruct the interactive router to attempt to automatically complete the current route.

Vias are circular in the X and Y planes, like round pads. The key difference between a via and a pad is that as well as being able to span all layers of the board (top to bottom), a via can also span from a surface layer to an internal layer or between two internal layers.
