You can use the Character Viewer to add special characters and symbols to text, such as maths symbols, Latin characters and pictographs. Click in the text where you want to place the character, then choose Edit Emoji Symbols (or press Control-Command-Space bar). The Character Viewer appears where you clicked.
MacBooks dont have an insert key. In fact, no Apple keyboard has one. And macOS doesnt natively support one. So, even if you have a third-party keyboard designed to be used with Mac, and this keyboard has an insert key, it wont do anything when you press it.
If the Finder sidebar is completely missing, open a Finder window, click the View menu, then click Show Sidebar. If only certain items are missing from the sidebar, click the Finder menu on the top left, then click Preferences. On the Sidebar tab, you can select which items to show in the sidebar.
On modern keyboards, the Insert key is only present on the control block between the typewriter keys and the numeric keypad. Originally an insert key was provided in the typewriter key block beside a delete key; both have been removed in favor of a double-sized backspace key.

Add a file to the sidebar: Press and hold the Command key, then drag the file to the Favorites section. If you dont see the Favorites section, choose Finder Settings Sidebar, then select at least one item in the Favorites section.
Paste function is Command + V. The insert function can be recreated on a macOS system by clicking on Fn and Enter.
The default mode is insert. You can toggle between the modes by pressing Esc; alternatively, in command mode, typing a (append) or i (insert) will return you to insert mode. Tables Table 4-5 through Table 4-11 describe the editing keystrokes available in vi mode.
