The MLA Style Center If a direct question contained in a sentence is long or has internal punctuation, set the question off with a comma and begin it with a capital letter: A single question contained in a sentence can also be preceded by a colon as long as the word before the question is not a verb.
Add a new question Navigate to the Question Bank page and make sure you selected Questions from the drop down menu on top. From the Select a category drop-down menu, select a category you want to add a question to. Select the question type you want to create from the Create new question drop-down menu.
1) When you have a direct question that is part of a sentence (as in my example), introduce it with a comma and end it with a question mark. Dont use italics.
Forming embedded questions If there is a question word, we keep it. If there is no question word, we use if or whether. We use normal sentence grammar (so we dont need do / does / did). We use normal sentence word order (subject + verb, not the opposite).
Lets see some examples: What time did you eat ? Embedded question: I wonder what time you ate . The auxiliary verb is removed and the past tense is reflected in the main verb.
A question mark (?) is placed at the end of a sentence which is a direct question. Here are some examples: What is the capital of Wales? Does anyone have a pen I can borrow?
To make an embedded question, you have to use statement word order, which has the subject before the main verb or auxiliary verb. For example: Can you tell me if you understand? [If/whether + Subject + Main Verb] (*Note: do is deleted.)
Try it! In the My forms tab, select New Form or New Quiz. Name your form and give it a description. Select Add Question and choose the type of question you want to add. Select Preview to see how your form will look on a computer or mobile device. To add a background color or image to your form, select Theme.
