Phone Number fields are used to collect phone numbers and validate that the proper format has been used for the phone number.
Landline phone numbers begin with the area code, then one digit for the operator code, then six digits for the primary telephone number. Format: ( Y ZZZZZZ) where: denotes the area code. All area codes begin with the number 0.
When you enter phone numbers in various phone fields, Salesforce preserves whatever phone number format you enter. However, if your Locale is set to English (United States) or English (Canada), 10-digit phone numbers and 11-digit numbers that start with 1 are formatted as (800) 555-1212 when you save the record.
Salesforce specifies that if a 10-digit phone number is input, the format will automatically be updated to the (###) ###-#### format. When inputting an 11-digit number, the format will be automatically updated to the +1 ########## format.
Phone fields can accept a maximum of 40 digits in length entered via the Salesforce UI (that can not be done via the API). For full guidelines, please review the Formats for Currency, Dates, Times, Names, and Phone Numbers documentation.
You should provide the complete number, including the country code with no use of special characters or spaces. Just the number. For example, a phone number like +1-555-555-1212 should be formatted as 15555551212 .
The standard Phone field on Account has data type Phone. As per documentation, a phone number is validated and formatted based on user locale.
