For the birth room Your birth plan that is, a written list of what youd like to happen when you are in labour and how youd like to give birth. A light dressing gown, for early labour when you may walk around the hospital corridors. Slippers or non-slip socks.
Most women will be able to go home afterwards, but sometimes you will have to stay in hospital because of medical reasons or the method of induction being used. Please pack a birth bag and either bring it with you or have it available in your car.
Youll want your hairbrush, regular or dry shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, lip balm, extra hair ties and face wipes (Babylist parents recommend these in case youre not up to showering right away). Remember extra contacts and/or glasses, if you wear them. Your birth plan.
Labour bag for induction Phone and headphones. Wallet. Book/tablet/kindle for entertainment, in case it takes a while for labour to begin. Up to a weeks worth of comfortable clothing, in case you need to stay in hospital postnatally too. Cardigan, in case you get cold. Button-up nighties or pyjamas. Light robe.
If your cervix is not very dilated or effaced then you will come to the hospital the night before your induction to undergo cervical ripening. There are several methods that we may use with the ultimate goal to dilate and efface the cervix overnight under restful conditions.
