To use a line shortcut, first, open your document with Microsoft Word. Next, place your cursor where you want to add a dotted line in your document. Type the asterisk sign (*) three times in your document. Now, press Enter, and Word will convert your asterisks into a dotted line automatically.
An ellipsis is a set of three periods ( . . . ) indicating an omission. Each period should have a single space on either side, except when adjacent to a quotation mark, in which case there should be no space.
On the Insert tab, click Symbols, and then click More Symbols. In the Symbol dialog box, click the bullet character. Click Insert, and then click Close.
Go to FileOptionsProofing and select AutoCorrect Options From the menu select AutoCorrect. Check Replace text as you type and select from the list the option to change three periods into an ellipsis. Click Okay, Okay again, and now whenever you type three periods Word will insert an ellipsis for you.
With U.S. keyboards, the period is next to the question mark key. With keyboards with a numeric keypad a period is also next to the Enter key.
