PAP (Password Authentication Protocol) is a very weak authentication protocol. It sends the username and password in cleartext.
PAP, or password authentication protocol, is a point-to-point protocol (PPP) authentication method that uses passwords to validate users. It is an internet standard (RFC 1334), password-based authentication protocol. Using PAP, data is not encrypted. It is sent to the authentication server as plain text.
Click Set up a new connection or network. Enter information for the wireless network: Specify your SSID name.Go the the Security tab under the connection properties page. Choose Microsoft: EAP-TTLS as the authentication method. Click Settings: Select PAP as the non-EAP method for authentication:
The Password Authentication Protocol (PAP. PAP validates users by password. PAP does not encrypt passwords for transmission and is thus considered insecure.) is an authentication protocol in which the user name and password are sent to the remote access server in unencrypted form.
The Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) provides simple password authentication on initial link establishment. It is not a strong authentication method, since passwords are transmitted in clear over the link and there is no protection from repeated attacks during the life of the link.
PAP uses a two-way handshake process for authentication using the following steps. Client sends username and password to server. The client wishing to establish a PPP session with a server sends a username and password combination to the server. Server accepts credentials and verifies.
Using PAP, data is not encrypted. It is sent to the authentication server as plain text. PAP uses a two-way handshake to authenticate users based on their provided username and password. When used in PPP, the password authentication protocol is considered a weak authentication scheme.
However, two-factor authentication processes involve the same general, multistep process: The user is prompted to log in by the application or the website. The user enters what they know -- usually, username and password. Then, the sites server finds a match and recognizes the user.
