It depends on what youre using it for, things like DKIM/DNS-SD use the host name for finding out information, but otherwise it doesnt matter as its supposed to be generic human readable information.
The generic steps to add a text record to your domain are listed below. Sign in to your domains account at your domain host. Locate the page for updating your domains DNS records. Locate the TXT records for your domain on this page. Add a TXT record for the domain and for each subdomain (see Use Cases below).
To store new types of information, the TXT record uses a structured format in its TXT-DATA field. The format consists of the attribute name followed by the value of the attribute. The name and value are separated by an equals sign (=). Any printable ASCII character is permitted for the attribute name.
To create a TXT verification record within your domain hosts DNS records: In the Type/Record Type field, select TXT or TXT Record. In the Name/Host/Alias field, enter @ or leave it blank. In the Value/Answer/Destination/Points to field, paste the code you copied in the Flexera One Verification Code column.
How to add a TXT Record to a Round Robin Hostname From your No-IP Account, click My Services at the left, then DNS Records. Under Hostname Type, click DNS Hostname (A) to select the A Record and save the changes by clicking Update Hostname at the bottom of the page.
Enter the details for your TXT record: Name: The host name for the record. Type @ to put the TXT record on your root domain, or enter a prefix such as mail. Value: The text string for the TXT record. This is usually provided by your SSL, hosting or email provider. TTL: How long the server should cache information.
TXT records are a type of Domain Name System (DNS) record that contains text information for sources outside of your domain. You add these records to your domain settings. You can use TXT records for various purposes. Google uses them to verify domain ownership and to ensure email security.
Create a TXT record on your domain Log into the One.com control panel. Click DNS settings on the Advanced settings tile. Go to DNS records. Under create new record, click TXT. Enter the following details: - Leave the hostname empty, or add a subdomain. Click Create record to save your settings.
Right click on your domain name and select Other New Records to add a new TXT record. Scroll down and select Text (TXT) and click Create Record button.
TXT records are commonly used for Google Verification. The TXT Value is what the record points to, but these records arent used to direct any traffic. Instead theyre used to provide needed information to outside sources.
