hi this is rhiannon from the contract express team this video will show you how to insert fields or variables into your templates there are two ways to do this the first is to insert the field directly into your document to do so select the text you wish to replace and press the insert field button this brings up the variable editor give your variable a name for your own reference and then enter the question you wish the end user of the template questionnaire to be asked to collect different types of data such as dates or numbers you may select the relevant variable type from the drop down press ok and the variable is inserted into your document and added to your dictionary you will also see a pop-up asking whether you would like to replace all instances of the text you selected to do so select yes the second way to create variables is by selecting the plus icon and then new variable from inside the dictionary editor this brings up a docked version of the variable editor you can then e

The complete list of fields available in Word is located in the Fields dialog box. To open the Fields dialog box, click on the Insert tab, then click on Quick Parts in the Text group and select Field. Here you can insert and modify fields, as well as view and hide field codes.
Fields enable you to quickly insert and update certain types of data in your document. This data is generally information that is subject to change, such as the authors name or the last save date, or a formula total.
Display the Developer tab of the ribbon. In the Controls group click Legacy Tools and then click the Text Form Field tool. A field indicator appears in the document.
Finding Fields Press Alt+F9. This makes all the field codes in your document visible, instead of the results of those fields. Press Ctrl+F. In the Find What box (Word 2007) or the search box (later versions of Word), enter ^d as what you are searching for (make sure you use a lowercase d). Click on Find Next.
Place the cursor in your document where you want to insert the field. From the Insert tab on the Ribbon, in the Text group, select Quick Parts and then select Field . In the Field dialog box, from the Field names list, select the field. You can filter this list by selecting Categories .
Create a Form Place the text cursor where you want to insert the form field. Click the Developer tab on the ribbon. Click the Design Mode button in the controls group. Click a Content Control buttons to insert the selected type of control. When youre done, click the Design Mode button again to exit Design Mode.
Press Ctrl + F9 to insert a pair of empty brackets and then type the field code and any switches. Lets try this method with the same { Author } field: Position the cursor where you want to insert the field. Press Ctrl + F9 to enter a blank field, as shown in Figure E.

Go to Insert Header or Footer. Select Edit Header or Edit Footer. Select Quick Parts, and select Field. In the Field names list, choose the field you want (such as FileName, Date, Author, or Title), choose the format you want in the Field properties section.
