This gigantic granite artifact is known as the Unfinished Obelisk. Aswan quarry was the primary source of granite for monumental constructions in Egypt for a very long time, and the obelisk itself provides insight into ancient Egyptian stone masonry methods. The word obelisk comes from the Greek language and refers to a tall, four-sided narrow tapering monument that has a pyramid-like shape at the top.
