Adding someone to a deed means transferring ownership to that person. The transfer of ownership can occur during life (with a regular quitclaim deed, for example) or at death (using a lady bird deed, transfer-on-death-deed, or life estate deed).
The only way to change a recorded deed is to have a new deed prepared and recorded in the Clerks Land Records Office. The deed on record cannot be changed. Once a document is recorded, it cannot be changed.
A quit claim deed should be filed with the clerk of court in the county where the property is located. This will involve taking the deed to the clerks office and paying the required filing fee (typically about $10 for a one-page quit claim deed).
In Texas, you cant add your spouses name to an existing deed, but you can create a new deed by transferring the property from yourself to you and your spouse jointly. You can do this by using either a deed without warranty or a quit claim deed.

If the value of the gift exceeds the annual exclusion limit ($16,000 for 2022) the donor will need to file a gift tax return (via Form 709) to report the transfer.
