The insert key usually sits in a block of keys between the main keyboard and a numeric keypad near the page up and page down keys. Its usually labeled Insert or Ins. When pressed, the Insert key turns on overwrite mode.
If you are in insert mode, which means youre actively editing text in the file, you can exit insert mode by pressing the Esc key.
Simply press the Insert key again to toggle it off. Your editor will switch back to the default insert mode, and you can continue typing as usual.
If it is one of those keys, it can be disabled in System Preferences - Keyboard - Modifier Keys - [The key you want] - No Action.
Ctrl-O lets us temporarily exit Insert mode, perform one Normal mode command, and then return to Insert mode. This is useful for quick actions, such as saving and quitting the current file (Ctrl-O zz) or going to the end of the file (Ctrl-O G).
