The Type Tool comes in four different variations and allows users to create both horizontal and vertical type. Note that whenever your create type in Photoshop, a new Type Layer will be added to your Layers Palette.

How to add or place text Open a photo or Photoshop document (PSD). From the toolbar, select the Type tool or simply press T to quickly select it. The Horizontal Type Tool with which you can add text horizontally is selected by default. Do you want to add a few words like a heading or title? Type your text.
Heres how: In Photoshop, go to File Open and select the image youd like to add text to. Select the Horizontal Type tool from the tools panel and type your text. Choose your font, font size, and color from the menu at the top of the Photoshop workspace. Select the Move tool to place your text where you want it.
