Intermediate table of contents To add a dot leader, or dotted line, between each entry and its page number, click the Tab leader list, and then click the dotted line. To change the overall appearance of your Table of Contents, click the Formats list, and then click the format that you want.
Place your cursor between a chapter name and the page number in your table of contents. Press the Tab button, and the dots are auto-generated for you. Repeat these steps for each chapter in your table of contents.
If the page numbers appear after the heading text, they might be preceded by characters called leaders, usually dots or periods, that run from the chapter or section titles on the opposite side of the page, or the page numbers might remain closer to the titles.
To create dot leaders, on the Home tab, click Paragraph, Tabs, and type the position where you want page numbers to begin (we recommend 6). Then click Alignment - Decimal, Dot Leader - 2, Set and then OK.
Method 1: Use the Insert Symbol command On the Insert menu, click Symbol. On the Insert tab, click Symbols, and then click More Symbols. In the Symbol dialog box, click the bullet character. Click Insert, and then click Close.
To type the dot symbol on your keyboard, turn on the numeric keypad by pressing NumLk , hold Alt and press the 0 , 1 , 4 , and 9 keys in succession.
