The enumerate() function takes in two parameters: iterable and start . iterable is the data collection passed in to be returned as an enumerate object. start is the starting index for the enumerate object. The default value is 0 so if you omit this parameter, 0 will be used as the first index.
The list index starts with 0 in Python. So, the index value of 1 is 0, 'two' is 1 and 3 is 2.
Enter the item to be inserted into the list and create a variable to store it. Use the insert() function(inserts the provided value at the specified position) to insert the given item at the first position(index=0) into the list by passing the index value as 0 and the item to be inserted as arguments to it.
In Python, you can access elements of a list by using the index and square brackets. Simply put the index of the element you want to access. Because we want to get the first element of the list, we can use the index 0 .
Accessing an element at a particular index in list is O(1), but searching for an element in a list is O(N).
Start index at 1 with enumerate() As in the example above, by default, the index of enumerate() starts at 0. If you want to start from another number, pass the number to the second argument of enumerate() . For example, this is useful when generating sequential number strings starting from 1.
The Python index() method helps you find the index position of an element or an item in a string of characters or a list of items. It spits out the lowest possible index of the specified element in the list. In case the specified item does not exist in the list, a ValueError is returned.
insert() Method. Use the insert() method when you want to add data to the beginning or middle of a list. Take note that the index to add the new element is the first parameter of the method.
insert(0, x) inserts at the front of the list, and xs. insert(len(xs), x) is equivalent to xs. append(x) . Negative values are treated as being relative to the end of the list.
insert(index, value)this inserts an item at a given position. The first argument is the index of the element before which you are going to insert your element, so array. insert(0, x) inserts at the front of the list, and array. insert(len(array), x) is equivalent to array.
