The primary purpose of paid sick leave is to ensure employees against loss of pay for temporary absences from work due to illness or injury.
I am writing to request a sick leave starting on [date] due to a medical condition that requires me to take time off from work. I expect to be on sick leave for approximately [length of time]. I have been diagnosed with [medical condition] and will need time to recover or receive treatment and bed rest.
First 12 months of service = statutory sick pay only. After 12 months of service = full rate sick pay for the first six months, followed by half rate. Full rate will be paid for a maximum of 6 months in any calendar year. Further periods will be paid at half rate.
Long Term Absence Long term sickness absence is where you are absent for a period of more than 4 weeks. If you are unable to return after 4 weeks your manager will arrange a review meeting with you to discuss your ill health and the support we can offer to help you return to and remain at work.
If you are off sick for more than 7 days, well need a fit note from your GP. You must inform us of your sickness within 6 months otherwise we cant pay you.
The purpose of a Stage 2 Absence Meeting is to discuss the content of the Occupational Health Advisers report (where applicable) and explore ways of supporting the employee in improving their attendance or in continuous absence cases, supporting their return to work.
Employees can take time off work if theyre ill. They need to give their employer proof if theyre ill for more than 7 days. If theyre ill just before or during their holiday, they can take it as sick leave instead.
Stage 1 Sickness Absence Meeting The purpose of the Stage 1 Meeting will be as follows: To review the employees attendance record during the relevant period, confirming the accuracy of information held. To give the employee the opportunity to discuss any problems or raise any concerns.
