Over the past several weeks, I've had fellow researchers asking if the Family Tree Maker software is still available. Yes, it is, and you can learn more from here.
Importing an Existing File in FTM for Windows Click the Plan button on the main toolbar. Click the New Tree tab. Click Import a tree from an existing file. Click Browse. Browse to the location of the family tree file, highlight it, and then click Open.
After opening Family Tree Maker 2005 SE, click the Open Existing button, or go to the File menu and select Open. Using the Open Family File window, find the file you want to convert, select it and click Open.
Family Tree Maker has ways to speed up citing the same source multiple times, such as when you find several members of a family in the same household in a census. To cite a source for the first person, highlight the census fact, look under the Sources tab and, in the right panel, select New > Add New Source Citation.
Uploading photos or documents From a family tree, click on a person. ... From their profile page, click the Gallery tab. ... From the gallery, click Add and select Upload Photos. On the Upload Photos page, click Choose files. ... Select the photo on your computer and click Open or OK.
Because Family Tree Maker still syncs with Ancestry, a small segment of Family Tree Maker questions (those involving signing in to your Ancestry account or adjusting your Ancestry membership) can be addressed only by Ancestry.
You can upload a photo or document to an individual's profile on your family tree by first clicking on their name to open the sidebar, then clicking 'view full profile'. From here, you click on the 'media' link and then 'add media'.
If your main tree is in Family Tree Maker, you can upload your tree to Ancestry by clicking the Upload and Link to Ancestry button on the Plan workspace. This will create a new linked online tree.
You can copy your FTM database file to an external hard drive and then transfer it to your new Computer....Transfer your Family Tree Maker database to an external hard drive In Family Tree Maker, click on File -> Save. Save your data under a different name than your current File (e.g., Family Tree Maker Backup).
To attach a source from the Person Tab: From the People workspace and under the Tree tab (the Family tab in some versions), select the person in your tree to whom you want to attach a source. ... On the right side of the screen, click the icon to add a New source.
