You can define a title for your document using \title{} and then create the title itself using \maketitle . You can also add other information such as the author(s) and the date, e.g. Note the use of \today to automatically insert the date you created the document.
Double-click the header or the footer area (near the top or bottom of the page). Go to Header & Footer > Field. In the Field names list, Select Page, and then select OK. To change the numbering format, go to Header & Footer > Page Number > Format Page Numbers.
Standard LaTeX accomplishes this with a two-stage approach. In the header and footer definition, you use the commands \rightmark and \leftmark to represent the current section and chapter heading, respectively. The values of these two commands are overwritten whenever a chapter or section command is processed.
A header is text that is placed at the top of a page, while a footer is placed at the bottom, or foot, of a page. Typically these areas are used for inserting document information, such as the name of the document, the chapter heading, page numbers, creation date and the like.
Here's an example in which I show two methods. A simple \chapter command in the \frontmatter will not give a numbering and correctly set the header. If you want the unnumbered chapter in the \mainmatter , then you can use an explicit \chaptermark command.
Use headers and footers to add a title, date, or page numbers to every page in a document....Try it! Select Insert > Header or Footer. Select one of the built in designs. Type the text you want in the header or footer. Select Close Header and Footer when you're done.
% Clear all headers and footers (see also \fancyhf{}) \fancyhead{}\fancyfoot{} % Set the header and footer for Even % pages but omit the zone (L, C or R) \fancyhead[E]{Header: even page \thepage} \fancyfoot[E]{Footer: even page \thepage} % Set the header and footer for Odd % pages but omit the zone (L, C or R) \ ...
\subsection*{Headings in the `article' Document Style} In the `article' style, the document may be divided up into sections, subsections and subsubsections, and each can be given a title, printed in a boldface font, simply by issuing the appropriate command.
