Does bankruptcy clear HMRC debt? Should you be unable to pay HMRC, the organisation may petition to make you bankrupt. Although bankruptcy should write off what you owe, your assets will also be sold so HMRC can recover as much of the debt as possible.
There is only one way to get a new UTR number and that is to declare bankruptcy. Declaration of bankruptcy will forfeit all tax obligations associated with the tax number and a new UTR number will be issued to you.
Do I need more than one UTR number? You cannot get more than one UTR number for a limited company, nor can you get more than one personal UTR for Self Assessment.
Get help from HMRC If you cannot find your UTR on any documents or online, request it by calling the Self Assessment helpline. Theyll post it to you - this takes around 10 days. If you have a limited company, you can request your Corporation Tax UTR online.
