There are three strategies you can use to embed quotations: set off quotations, build in quotations, or introduce quotations with a colon. Set-off quotations are set off from the sentence with a comma. Capitalize the first word of the quote.
In-text citations in MLA style follow the general format of authors last name followed by a page number enclosed in parentheses. Here is an example: Heres a direct quote (Smith 8). If the authors name is not given, use the first word (or words) of the title.
Using In-text Citation For direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14). For sources such as websites and e-books that have no page numbers, use a paragraph number, for example: (Field, 2005, para. 1).

Quote or paraphrase. When using a direct quote, copy down the exact words from a sentence. Surround a direct quotation with quotation marks. To paraphrase is to put something written or spoken by someone else into your own words. You dont change the meaning of what the other person wrote or said, just the wording.
You can cite evidence by: Using an in-text citation with parentheses at the end of a sentence. Using a footnote or end note. Stating the name of the author, speaker, or organization in your sentence and including another citation method or a works cited page.
