You have the right to up to 52 weeks maternity leave if youre having a baby and are legally classed as an employee. You have this right from your first day of starting a job. By law, you must take at least 2 weeks off after your baby is born (4 weeks if you work in a factory).
Most OECD countries pay for parental leave programs using social insurance funds that are supported by employer, worker, and government contributions. Some countries fund parental leave through general taxes or health insurance.
Statutory Maternity Leave Eligible employees can take up to 52 weeks maternity leave. The first 26 weeks is known as Ordinary Maternity Leave, the last 26 weeks as Additional Maternity Leave. The earliest that leave can be taken is 11 weeks before the expected week of childbirth, unless the baby is born early.

Germany 14 weeks After maternity leave, parents in Germany can request a whopping 3 years of parental leave for their natural or adopted child.
International minimum standards In the European Union, the Pregnant Workers Directive requires at least 14 weeks of maternity leave; while the WorkLife Balance Directive requires at least 10 days of paternity leave, as well as at least 4 months of parental leave, with 2 months being non-transferable.
Besides the United States, the only other countries with no national paid maternity leave are the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea and Tonga.
The United States, Papua New Guinea, and a few island countries in the Pacific Ocean (namely the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Tonga) are the only 7 countries in the United Nations that do not require employers to provide paid time off for new parents.
