Some full-size keyboards compatible with Mac do have an ins key just as you describe, otherwise. You can right-click the Status Bar select Overtype to add it to the Status Bar. It can be clicked to toggle between Insert Overtype modes, or. You can assign a keyboard shortcut to the Overtype command.

MacBooks dont have an insert key. In fact, no Apple keyboard has one. And macOS doesnt natively support one. So, even if you have a third-party keyboard designed to be used with Mac, and this keyboard has an insert key, it wont do anything when you press it.
On modern keyboards, the Insert key is only present on the control block between the typewriter keys and the numeric keypad. Originally an insert key was provided in the typewriter key block beside a delete key; both have been removed in favor of a double-sized backspace key.
Use F12 as Insert in macOS terminal Remove F12 as key from System Settings-Mission Control. Enable Use F1, F2, etc. Go to Terminal-Preferences and set the default profile as Pro. Go to Terminal-Preferences-Profiles-Keyboard and Replace F12 code with \033[2~
