So maybe in Excel or in Outlook, you have a list of maybe 30, 50, 60, maybe even hundreds of addresses and you want to print each one of those addresses onto an address label. Well, one way to do that is you could create a new address label sheet in Microsoft Word, and you could go through, and you could copy and paste each address into one of the labels and then you could print it out. But that sounds really painful and thatamp;#39;s also going to take a long time. Today Iamp;#39;m going to show you how you can use mail merge in Word to greatly simplify that task. Go to File Save As. Click Browse. In the Save As dialog box, under Save as type box, choose the text file format for the worksheet; for example, click Text (Tab delimited) or CSV (Comma delimited).
Encode CSV files. In Microsoft Excel, open the *. xlsx file. Select Menu | Save As. Enter any name for your file. Under Save as type, select Unicode Text. Click Save. Open your saved file in Microsoft Notepad. Replace all tab characters with commas (,) Click Save As.
Select Data Text to Columns. In the Convert Text to Columns Wizard, select Delimited Next. Select the Delimiters for your data. For example, Comma and Space.
In the Region dialog box, on the Formats tab, click Additional settings In the Customize Format dialog box, on the Numbers tab, type the character you want to use as the default CSV delimiter in the List separator box. For this change to work, the List separator should not be the same as Decimal symbol.
How to change the field separator (delimiter) in Excel when saving as a CSV file In Microsoft Windows, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel. Open the dialog box for changing Regional and Language settings. In the dialog box, look for the List separator setting. Enter the desired list separator.
So if youre working with CSV, what special characters are actually supported? Technically, all of them! There are no specified limits of what characters can be used in a CSV file. What limits you is how your file is encoded.
Displaying Special Characters in . CSV Files Exported From Employee Email In Excel, navigate to Data Import External Data Import Data/Import From Text and choose 65001 Unicode (UTF-8). Save your settings then re-open your file to confirm that special characters are displayed correctly.
Option 2 - How to change your delimiter Open the Excel file that youre trying to change in terms of data formatting. Click the Data tab, then From Text. Select the CSV file that has the data clustered into one column. Select Delimited, then make sure the File Origin is Unicode UTF-8.
