Steps and Instructions On the Autostore server, open Notepad. Type a CSV file as shown below, make sure you have a value column and a display column. The value column shall contain the value you want to retrieve from the dropdown selection. The display column shall contain the string that is displayed in the dropdown.
You can easily popoulate your Drop Down, Radio Buttons as well as Checkboxes fields using a CSV file without having to enter each choice one by one by yourself. This will help you save a lot of time if you have a large list of options. Below you can find a step by step tutorial on how to populate your fields.
Create the Drop Down List First, select the cells where you want the drop down lists. Next, on the Excel Ribbons Data tab, in the Data Tools group, click Data Validation. Then, in the Data Validation dialog box, go to the Settings tab. Click in the Allow box, and in the drop-down menu, select List.
Open Microsoft Excel (make sure it is the Excel file you want to duplicate in CSV format). Underneath file name at the bottom of the save screen you will see option Save as type. In this field select CSV (Comma delimited). Two dialogue boxes pop ups will appear alerting you that formatting is different.
Go to Data Data Validation. On the Settings tab, click in the Source box, and then on the worksheet that has the entries for your drop-down list, Select cell contents in Excel containing those entries. Youll see the list range in the Source box change as you select.
Go to Data Data Tools Data Validation. In the Data Validation dialogue box, within the settings tab, select List as Validation Criteria. In Source field, select the cells which have the items that you want in the drop down. Click OK.
On the Settings tab of the Data Validation dialog box, do the following: In the Allow box, select List. In the Source box, type the items separated by a comma with or without spaces. Make sure the In-cell dropdown box is checked (default), otherwise the drop-down arrow wont appear next to the cell.
Create a drop-down list Select the cells that you want to contain the lists. On the ribbon, click DATA Data Validation. In the dialog, set Allow to List. Click in Source, type the text or numbers (separated by commas, for a comma-delimited list) that you want in your drop-down list, and click OK.
