hey everyone welcome back to clinical physio with me khalid maidan in todays video were going to be taking you through the anterior drawer test for the ACL the anterior cruciate ligament as we said the purpose of this test is for the ACL in particular were looking at the integrity of this ligament with this test just before we actually show you the technique I wanted to say that were only going to perform this test on our patients right leg were not going to slow your video down by showing you on the other side as well but of course in clinical practice you always want to compare the two so lets get into it so as the therapists were going to passively bend our patients knee to approximately 90 degrees of flexion like so from here were going to sit on our patients for fit so that weve stabilized the lower limb and then were going to have both of our hands in a C shape like so cupping around the proximal tibia our thumbs are going to be resting just above the tibial tuberosit

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the ligaments in the knee joint. A ligament is a tough, flexible band of tissue that holds bones and cartilage together. The ACL connects the bottom of the thighbone (femur) to the top of the shinbone (tibia). The ACL helps keep the knee stable.
What are knee ligaments? Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The ligament, located in the center of the knee, that controls rotation and forward movement of the tibia (shin bone).
Your next question may be, where is my new ACL coming from? There are 4 common areas where your new ACL can come from. These are: the quadriceps tendon autograft, the patellar tendon autograft, the hamstring tendon autograft, and a cadaver allograft.
The anterior cruciate ligament originates at the medial wall of the lateral femoral condyle and inserts into the middle of the intercondylar area. It contributes docHubly to the stabilization and kinematics of the knee joint.
What are the symptoms of an ACL injury or tear? A pop in the knee at the time of injury. Swelling of the knee. Inability to bear weight on leg (though some have little or no pain) Instability of the knee.
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is located inside the knee, just behind the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). It is one of several ligaments that connect the femur (thighbone) to the tibia (shinbone).
If the ACL is completely torn, there will be instability in the knee that will cause feelings of sudden shifting or buckling. People will be unable to: jump and land on the knee. accelerate and then change directions.
The PCL originates from the anterolateral aspect of the medial femoral condyle within the notch and inserts along the posterior aspect of the tibial plateau, approximately 1 cm distal to the joint line.
Structure. The ACL originates from deep within the notch of the distal femur. Its proximal fibers fan out along the medial wall of the lateral femoral condyle. The two bundles of the ACL are the anteromedial and the posterolateral, named ing to where the bundles insert into the tibial plateau.
ACL is an intrasynovial intra-articular ligament, thus putting it at risk of nutritional insufficiency in chronic synovitis. Moreover, the development of osteophytes around the femoral intercondylar notch causes impingement of the ACL, compromising its blood supply and eventually leading to attrition of the ligament.
