Add Employer If an SEVP Portal user wants add an employer, click Add Employer. When all required fields are entered, click Save. The portal displays a success message. Please note that F-1 STEM OPT participants using the portal cannot use this feature, and the Add Employer button does not appear on their page.
Employment must be a minimum of 20 hours per week, paid or unpaid, to maintain legal F-1 OPT status. You should be able to provide evidence, acquired from your employer, to verify that you worked at least 20 hours per week during the period of employment.
You may work for multiple employers (including short-term gigs, self-employment, contract work, or work for hire). In order for your OPT employment to be considered active, you must be working 20 hours per week or more between all OPT jobs combined.
