So what should you put in the Additional Comments Academic History section? Important details about your activities that wouldnt fit in your Activities List. Health stuff. Any potential red flags on your application.
The Additional Information section is an excellent tool for students who truly need the extra space. This is a useful opportunity to share every important facet of who they are and what they achieved. It is also an ideal place to explain circumstances that have impacted your educational progress.
Additional Comments: Use the additional comments field if there are issues youd like to address that you didnt have the opportunity to discuss elsewhere on the application. This shouldnt be an essay but rather a place to note unusual circumstances or anything that might be unclear in other parts of the application.
The UC Application offers students the opportunity to submit up to 550 words as Additional Comments within the Personal Insight section of the application. This space is reserved for additional information, and while it is tempting to use it to explore a subject of your choosing, students should use it sparingly.
Just contact the admissions office at your university and request access under FERPA to any documents they have, which they are legally obligated to provide within 45 days.
Information that youd want to include in the Additional Information section generally falls into two categories: extenuating circumstances and other details related to your academics and extracurriculars.
Only use the Additional Comments section to get across information that you cant possibly express at any other point in the application (including the Academic History Additional Comments section). And even then, keep it limited, and follow the guidelines outlined below.
Some life events you might consider addressing in this section of the UC application: A prolonged absence from school. Taking a gap year. A drop in your grades or GPA. Being diagnosed with a learning difference. A lack of extracurricular activities. Instability at home. Graduating a semester or year early.
