A full VAT invoice needs to show: the suppliers name, address and VAT registration number. the name and address of the person to whom the goods are supplied. a unique identification number (see below)
HMRCs VAT invoice requirements state that a full VAT invoice needs to include: A unique, sequential invoice number. Your business name. Your registered address. Your VAT number. An issue date. A date of supply. Your customers name and address. A description of the goods or services provided.
The invoice is an important part of the purchasing process because it specifies all the information and the price. The value-added tax must be included in this document. Many people have doubts about this. If you are one of these people, we will explain how to calculate the VAT on an invoice.
If your business is registered for VAT, its important that your invoices display your VAT number. If you send an invoice that doesnt include your VAT number, it wont be considered a complete VAT invoice, and this could cause problems when its time to submit your VAT Return.
This means that you dont need to include the net price of each product or service, or include the VAT rate or subtotal. Instead, you simply enter the gross amounts and state the total amount due, including VAT. A simplified VAT invoice also doesnt require the date or customers name and address.
You must show the following details on any VAT invoices you issue: a sequential number based on one or more series which uniquely identifies the document. the time of the supply. the date of issue of the document (where different to the time of supply) the name, address and VAT registration number of the supplier.
What must be included on a VAT invoice? A unique, sequential invoice number. Your name or trading name and address. Your VAT registration number. The invoice date. The time of supply, also referred to as tax point, if this is different from the date above. The customers name or trading name and address.
What needs to be on the Receipt? The name of the retailer. The address of the retailer. The VAT registration number (often found on the back) A description of the goods purchased. The date of sale (tax point)
