Double-click within the text block and place the cursor where you want to add the symbol. Click the right side of the Symbols graphic and select More Symbols.
To type the dot symbol on your keyboard, turn on the numeric keypad by pressing NumLk , hold Alt and press the 0 , 1 , 4 , and 9 keys in succession. If you dont type the numbers with the numeric keypad, the dot symbol will not show.

On modern keyboards, the Insert key is only present on the control block between the typewriter keys and the numeric keypad. Originally an insert key was provided in the typewriter key block beside a delete key; both have been removed in favor of a double-sized backspace key.

This command helps you insert characters that you cant type. (The characters you cant type depend on the keyboard youre using.) To insert frequently used characters, you dont need the Insert symbol window.
To type special characters in Windows, hold the Alt key, type the number code associated with the special character you want using the numpad thats located on the right side of your keyboard. The row of numbers above your letter keys wont work.
To find it, go to the Type menu, come all the way down to the Insert special character sub menu, then look inside the symbol sub menu, and you can see that there are all kinds of characters in here, the bullet character or copyright symbol, theres the one I was looking for Registered Trademark Symbol
