Context of Payment: Termination pay is linked to the absence of adequate termination notice, whereas severance pay relates to recognizing long-term service and larger-scale job loss scenarios.

Typical severance packages offer one to two weeks of paid salary for every year worked. You usually have 21 days to accept a severance agreement, and once its signed, you have seven days to change your mind.
Executive Severance Packages A severance agreement may be a lump-sum payment or a salary over a period of months. If not a lump-sum payment, the agreement may pay an executives salary for anywhere from a couple of months to a year or more.
At a minimum, severance pay should be one week of pay per year you were employed, up to a maximum of 26 weeks. However, what you are legally owed can be as much as two years pay. But its important to note, its more than just the length of your employment that factors into the amount of severance you should receive.
The Plan provides severance pay in the event of a termination of employment for specified reasons and is an employee welfare benefit plan under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). The benefits under the Plan are not insured by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
