The cost of selling image rights depends on your level of work, resources, photography experience, marketing, and terms of use. Generally, you can get anywhere between $20 to $50 per image. However, you can ask for more if you want a complete copyright buyout.
A photography license agreement is a legal document used when a photographer licenses the rights to use their photo to another party. These legal agreements are commonly used within the photography industry and do not trasnfer ownership of the work.
On average, stock photographers make $0.02 per image per month with stock photos, while professionals make $0.05$0.25 per image per month. Royalty-free sales earn between $0.10 and $99.50, while extended licenses bring up to $500.
So to summarize, every situation is different, but for a clip, Id start at about 10-20% your day rate for that shot. For a full production, 10-20% of the total cost of the production. For more ideas as to what you might be able to charge for a clip, just look at stock clip sites and their rate structures.
As a product photographer, you should consider charging hourly rates. For any amateur photographer, $25 to $120 would be perfect. On the other hand, if you are a professional product photographer, charging from $100 to $150 would be a considerable range.
To determine usage fees, you first have to calculate a Base Usage Rate (BUR). Generally the BUR is set at about 5-10% of your day rate. Period. The next thing to consider is how long the image will be used for. The longer the usage, the higher the usage fees will be.
Twenty or so decent shots are possible after thirty minutes of photographing, but after an hour, you can expect to have between forty and fifty shots from which to make your selections.
