[Music] I just wanted to do a quick tutorial on how to record multiple sources on the zoom h4n and the first thing you need to do is actually go in and set the menu up so that you can record stereo into the microphone inputs on the bottom of the recorder to do that you hit the menu button on the side and use the scroll wheel to go to input the scroll wheel is also a button and if you push that you can scroll down to one to link you want to keep that off and you can simply set that in the menu you can hit menu to exit out theres multiple ways you can actually record with this recorder using the built-in microphones or using inputs one and two on the bottom if you simply press the button to select you change from the built-in mics to the microphone inputs on the bottom these two inputs are XLR mic ends or quarter-inch unbalanced line ends but you wont find unbalanced coming from boards and mixers this is a line source plugged into the mic inputs with the input levels turned way down s

Line in is the audio jack found on an audio device that can be used to connect to another audio output device or microphone. Line in could be either digital or analog. The core functionality of the line-in jack is to aid in audio recording or manipulate the incoming audio.
Consumer electronic devices concerned with audio (for example sound cards) often have a connector labeled line in and/or line out. Line out provides an audio signal output and line in receives a signal input.
A line-in (line input) is an audio socket that is found on audio interfaces, computer sound cards, and some mixers. Its used to connect an external audio device such as an instrument, microphone, or CD player (remember those?). Conversely, mic-in is for microphones you connect a wired or wireless mic to a mic-in.
Line inputs and outputs are found on consumer devices such as TVs, DVD players and laptops. As well as pro audio gear such as mixing desks, audio interfaces and signal processors. Any line level output can be connected to any line input, therefore enabling any piece of equipment with line ins and outs to be connected.
Line inputs are not designed for microphones. Although it is possible to use them and it wont harm your mic, there is not enough gain to amplify the microphones level to a line input.
A miclevel input is typically a female XLR connector. A linelevel input is typically an RCA jack, 1/4 phone jack, or 3.5 mm phone jack. Dont assume that the levels match just because one connector fits properly with another. Inputs are generally very clearly marked.
Line-in Recording means that the set does nothave a tuner, and you can not record TV Programs directly off the air. The set requires a device (Cable Box, Satellite, or another VCR/DVDR) to be connected to the line-in connector before it is able to record programs off the air.
