Most popular types of dental inlays and onlays include metal inlays and ceramic inlays. Metal inlays can be made of various materials, usually metal alloy. One type of inlays that was very popular in the last century is gold inlay. The other widespread type of inlays and onlays was silver-amalgam filling.
In bone inlay, the discarded bones of camels passed away due to natural causes are used. So one can enjoy these fine furniture pieces without feeling guilty because no animal is harmed.
The process of inlaying begins with a design or pattern which is carved out from a material. In our case its either mother of pearl or cruelty-free polished bone from camels that have died of natural causes, but it can be done with wood, metal, marble and ivory.
The unique art of bone inlay comes exclusively from a place in India called Rajasthan. All products by Mahlia Interiors are made of 100% ethically-sourced camel bone, or mother of pearl shells. Each finished piece of furniture is certified by the auditing agency, WCCB (Wildlife Crime Control Bureau).
The entire design of bone inlay is done solely by hand, giving the product an extra special character. In this painstaking process, the bone is carefully carved, structured, dyed, and made to fit entirely in the metal or wood frame.
Bone inlay products are made from camel bone.
inlay, in the visual arts, any decorative technique used to create an ornamental design, pattern, or scene by inserting or setting into a shallow or depressed ground or surface a material of a different colour or type. Inlay techniques are used in enamelwork, furniture decoration, lacquerwork, and metalwork.
Architecture. A shaped piece of one material embedded in another as part of surface ornamentation. Furniture. A technique in which a design is cut out of the surface to be decorated and filled in with other contrasting materials cut to fit exactly into these openings.
