YES! Absolutely, it affects the tone.
Ebony, maple, rosewood, pau ferro or synthetic we all seem to have our favorites. The fingerboard of an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar is a docHub factor in the instruments overall tone.
Smaller dots are also usually inlaid into the upper edge of the fretboard or the neck to be more visible to the player who views the instrument from the side. LEDs or optical fiber can be employed to illuminate the markers.
Yes, slightly brighter sound since the inlay is harder than the wood, but probably such a small effect you couldnt hear it. I do not want to change the subject, but just as an example of how surprised I was at the tone difference, I bought a couple high end instrument cables. Also called block markers, this refers to fret markers inlaid into a guitars or basss fingerboard that are rectangular block shaped instead of the more common circular dot markers. The difference between the two types is cosmetic only, and does not affect the instruments tone or playability.
Inlay on guitars or similar fretted instruments are decorative materials set into the wooden surface of the instrument using standard inlay techniques. Inlay (guitar) - Wikipedia Wikipedia wiki Inlay(guitar) Wikipedia wiki Inlay(guitar)
