Start by applying oil-based stain using a Purdy brush, wiping off the excess with a lint-free rag. Then, choose a secondary tone to achieve your custom look. Apply it with a brush, then use a rag to blend the colors together while wiping off the excess.

Using the same basic technique that you use for the base coat. Apply the stain in small areas following the grain of the wood.
In new construction or when existing trim is removed for refinishing, we recommend that you encapsulate the piece with two to three coats of epoxy on all sides prior to installation and prior to applying varnish. (Three coats on surfaces that will be sanded.) This seals the wood, effectively protecting it from water.
If an oil-based stain is used, you must apply a clear oil-based polyurethane to seal the surface before applying a seal coat of our UltraClear table top epoxy. If you pour epoxy directly onto the oil-based stain before it has dried completely, the epoxy may end up not bonding properly and could peel off months later.
Water-based stains can be applied to a previous layer of cured epoxy, or to a substrate that is intended to be clear-coated with epoxy. The stain must be completely cured before adding the next layer of epoxy.
To prevent the epoxy from bleeding into the grain, its a good idea to seal the wood first by spraying on a coat of lacquer. And to make it easier to remove any ex- cess epoxy, rub a coat of wax on the surface of the wood. Give your Spirocrafter projects an eye-catching inlay with colored epoxy.
Ive seen thats its best to seal the wood first before pouring the colored epoxy in order to stop the bleeding of the color.
Alcohol-based and water-based stains are ideal and dry fast. An epoxy coat can go over them in about 24 hours.
