how to remove the dashes from an SSN in Excel an SSN stands for social security number and the format is nine digits where each three digits are separated by a dash there may be a situation where you want to remove the dashes so that only the digits are left one easy way to do this well the most obvious way would be used would be to use the find and replace I can press Ctrl f control F opens the find and replace window so here under the replace tab I can say to find The Hyphen and I leave replace with blank meaning that I want to replace the hyphens with blanks and then Iamp;#39;ll say replace all so this says itamp;#39;s done in The mid-12 Replacements Iamp;#39;ll close this now I see that when I use this option this number which had a leading zero has lost the zero so this is incorrect because now this number is wrong so the only way to do that is to use the substitute function in Excel so for that we will need to um add this number in a new column so I will say substitute I can c
