With a reliable protective coating, some varnish, and regular cleanings, a wood band will last for a long time, even as long as some of the tougher metal ones. Rings with a wooden inlay, such as wood and carbon fiber rings, are also quite durable with proper love and care.
Fill the hole with the granulated inlay material. Fill it loosely; dont pack it in too tightly. It is best to mound the granules up a little bit over the hole. A small spoon or even a toothbrush can help put the granules in the right place.
Tungsten Carbide - The undisputed champion of scratch resistance. Boasting an almost diamond-like hardness, tungsten rings are nearly invincible against everyday nicks and scrapes.
Opal Hardness Wearability On the Mohs hardness scale, opal is placed at about a 5.5 to 6.5. Compare that to the hardest gemstone, diamond, coming in at a 10, sapphires and rubies at a 9, and emeralds at a 7.5 to 8. This means that opals are a soft gemstone making them very susceptible to scratching and breaking.
Most Inlay rings are also incredibly durable. Since theyre strengthened by the combination of metal and resin, they make a great option for anyone looking for a ring that wont scratch or dent easily. This style is low maintenance, only requiring an occasional polish using a micro-fiber cloth.
Corundum (e.g., ruby and sapphire) are the most durable gemstones when combining hardness and toughness 8 on Mohs Scale/Excellent toughness. Therefore, if youre considering an engagement ring for everyday wear, sapphire, ruby, and diamond are smart, durable choices.
