As the knee is flexed, the femoral attachment of the ACL becomes a more horizontal orientation; causing the AM bundle to tighten and the PL bundle to relax.
The anterior cruciate ligament runs diagonally in the middle of the knee. It prevents the tibia from sliding out in front of the femur and provides rotational stability to the knee.
Its primary functions include: Stabilizing the Knee Joint: The ACL restricts rotational motions in the knee joint and aids in preventing the tibia, or shin bone, from moving excessively forward in relation to the femur, or thigh bone.
The ACL acts with the PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) to stabilize the knee from the back and the front. The PCL is responsible for stabilizing the knee posteriorly (from the back) and preventing hyperextension-straightening the joint beyond the normal range of motion- at the knee joint.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the two cruciate ligaments which stabilizes the knee joint by preventing excessive forward movements of the tibia or limiting rotational knee movements.
What is a function of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee joint? The ACL prevents the tibia from moving too far anteriorly on the femur.
The ACL was bluntly separated into the two bundles. Note that the AM bundle attaches on the cylindrical surface of the femoral intercondylar notch around its proximal/posterior outlet. PCL: Posterior cruciate ligament, AMB: Anteromedial bundle, PLB: Posterolateral bundle.
With a cell selected in an Add-In for Excel table, click the ACL Add-In tab and select Sample. Specify the Number of samples you want drawn from the data. The number of samples cannot exceed the number of rows in the table.
