Hi everybody, Im Mike McCrory and this is Wood U Make It. My daughters currently enrolled at VCU -- Virginia Commonwealth University -- in the Fine Arts program. And every now and then she brings home a painting thats worth framing. Thats what Im going to make today -- a picture frame made from walnut and soft maple. So, lets get started! [theme music playing] Im going to make the frame out of 8/4 walnut and 5/4 maple. Now, you may think that my daughter is six years old or something, but this is actually the back of the painting. Im just measuring it up for the size. And then Im going to measure out the lengths of the walnut and the maple. Im going to cut it oversize. The walnut is going to be 42 and the maple 38. And then Ill cut that with a circular saw. It wasnt too difficult to cut. Although, the blade only goes down 2 on my saw so I just barely made it through the walnut. Now Im going to use a chalk line to draw a line down the center of both pieces. That will

But just how long do inlays and onlays last? On average, these restorations will not need replacing for 20 to 30 years. Following the proper guidelines can help prolong the life of your restorations and preserve your oral health.
At their most basic definitions, an inlay fills in cavities and hollows in a tooth in the areas between the cusps. An onlay will not just fill in cavities in those spaces, but they can work for a larger area, including the cusps. They work similarly to crowns, but they do not cover the entire surface of the tooth.
Dental onlay cost is typically similar to an inlay. However, these restorations tend to be larger and may cost slightly more. Treatment cost generally ranges from $650 to $1,200 per tooth, with an average price of $900.
A dental onlay is larger than a dental inlay but smaller than a dental crown. It fits within the grooves but wraps up and over the cusps and covers more of the tooths surface. A dental onlay is often used to repair a tooth that has more extensive damage affecting the cusp or potentially the biting surface.
The docHub difference between the two is that while an onlay covers the tooth cusp, the inlay only fills parts of the cusps. Crowns cover the biting surface of the tooth completely, including the tooth structure above the gum line.
Compared to a crown, an onlay is a less aggressive restoration when one can be performed, as less tooth structure needs to be removed in order to place the onlay. The costs are similar, but an onlay is a little cheaper than a crown. As such, an onlay is actually the preferred restoration when possible.
