The Inlay toolpath functionality can be used to calculate either profile or pocketing toolpaths with automatic compensation for the tool radius; this allows the cut-out parts to fit into the corresponding cavities.
To put it simply, wood inlays are created by carving a void into the surface of a piece of wood, then filling that void with a piece of contrasting wood or other material cut to the same dimensions.
Make the inlay piece first so that when you carve the pocket for it you can test fit it and if its too tight you can do an offset run on the vector while it is still fixtured to your machine. An offset of about . 005-. 008 should be about where it fits.
Inlays are usually indicated when there has been repeated bdocHub in the integrity of a direct filling as metal inlays are more superior in strength. It is also indicated when placement of direct restoration may be challenging to achieve satisfactory parameters (shape, margin, occlusion).
Using the Toolpath Tiling options it is possible to machine objects and designs that are many times larger than the available area of your CNC machine bed. This process is also invaluable if the maximum size of your material pieces are limited.
Inlay is commonly used in the production of decorative furniture, where pieces of colored wood, precious metals or even diamonds are inserted into the surface of the carcass using various matrices including clear coats and varnishes.
