- [Voiceover] Marquetry, or wood mosaics, are made by arranging hundreds of small separately cut pieces of wood into an intricate design. The process for making marquetry began when I craftsman drew, or more often traced, a design on paper. This drawing was then secured to a sheet of heavy brown paper. Following the lines of the drawing, the craftsman perforated the pattern. Although now made with a device similar to a sewing machine, during the 18th century, thousands of holes had to be laboriously punched by hand with a needle. This heavy sheet, called the pounce pattern, was laid on top of a sheet of white paper. The craftsman then rubbed graphite over the surface of the perforated pattern to transfer the design to the bottom sheet. The design could be reproduced several times using this method. To the inlay, just squeeze some wood glue into the grooves and press the strips in place. Theres usually no need to clamp them, but if they fit a little loose, you can hold them in place with some painters tape. Plane or sand them down flush to the workpiece.
An inlay refers to a filling that usually consists of gold, porcelain, or resin that is used to treat a cavity. An inlay is larger than a filling while being smaller than a crown. The difference between an inlay and a filling is that an inlay lies within the cusps on the chewing portion of the tooth.
Inlays are a great way to condense details while remaining in the same context. This design pattern hides information to save room for overview content and then exposes it when a user initiates the inlay. Inlays typically work by expanding the area being viewed to show more information, navigation, inputs, etc.
Types of Dental Inlays and Onlays Porcelain. Zirconia. Gold. Composite.
Wood inlays are made by cutting a shaped pocket or void into a piece of wood, and then filling that pocket with another piece cut to the same shape. Although inlays can look impressive, they are not all that difficult to make. All you need to do is follow some simple techniques and you can create some amazing inlays.

Overlays are really just lightweight pop ups. We use the term lightweight to make a clear distinction between it and the normal idea of a browser pop up. Browser pop ups are created as a new browser window (Figure 5-1).
To the inlay, just squeeze some wood glue into the grooves and press the strips in place. Theres usually no need to clamp them, but if they fit a little loose, you can hold them in place with some painters tape. Plane or sand them down flush to the workpiece.
The inlay is a pre-molded piece of material that bonds to the tooth. The general dentist will use cement to place the inlay into the grooves of the affected tooth. A technician makes the inlay to be the right size and shape of the cavity or the missing portion of the tooth.
Similar to fillings, inlays and onlays are used to restore a tooths integrity and function following damage. The difference being that, whereas a standard filling is applied directly into/onto your tooth and hardens in your mouth, inlays and onlays are custom-made in the laboratory and then cemented in place.
