If youre still locked out, were going to need to call in the cavalry aka the Recovery Mode. Restart your Mac and hold down the Command and R keys until you see the Apple logo. From the Utilities menu, pick Terminal. Type resetpassword and hit enter. Follow the instructions on the screen to reset your password.
From the Utilities menu in the menu bar, choose Terminal. In the Terminal window, type resetpassword , then press Return to open the Reset Password assistant. If asked to select an admin user you know the password for, click Forgot all passwords?.
View your password for a website account On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Passwords in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click the Info button for the website. Place the pointer over the series of dots next to Password on the right.

Add or change your password hint On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Users Groups in the sidebar. Click the Info button next to your user name on the right, then click Change. Enter your existing password in the Old Password field, enter and verify a new password, then enter a password hint.
To change these settings, choose Safari Settings, then click AutoFill. Complete forms with information from any contact card in Contacts. To view or edit information, click Edit. Save user names and passwords you enter on websites, then easily fill in the saved information when you revisit the same websites.
Open the Apple System Preferences. Go to the Users Groups pane. Select Login Options. Enable Show Password Hints.
Add a password hint on Mac On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Users Groups in the sidebar. Click the Info button next to your user name on the right, then click Change. Enter your existing password in the Old Password field, enter and verify a new password, then enter a password hint.
Think about your password. Dont use the word or phrase as a password hint. Think about other words related to that word/in that phrase. The other word you would count in the example is ignorance (is has thousands of other words related to it). So from your password bliss you now have the word ignorance.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Lock Screen in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click the pop-up menu next to Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off, then choose the time that passes before a password is required.
