An onlay is an indirect restoration covering one or more cusps of a posterior tooth. It is designed to strengthen a tooth that has been weakened by caries, tooth fracture, or a previously placed large restoration. Resin, cast gold, or ceramic may be used.
Inlay is commonly used in the production of decorative furniture, where pieces of colored wood, precious metals or even diamonds are inserted into the surface of the carcass using various matrices including clear coats and varnishes. Inlay - Wikipedia Wikipedia wiki Inlay Wikipedia wiki Inlay
An inlay is like a filling because it covers the decayed part of the tooth. The difference with inlays is that the inlay is formed in a dental lab as a hardened piece. Then, the dentist will place the dental inlay into the tooth and use resin or dental cement to bond it permanently to the tooth.

Creating a pearl inlay for your guitar is high art and worth the many hours of dedicated work that go into them. I decided to show you how I am going step by step on the blue shark that will go on the chimera headstock classical guitar for Dr. Douglas Fields.
Inlay work can be created using either machinery like a lathe, or hand tools, such as a bow saw. The differing mechanisms allow for expansive varieties of shapes, creating geometric, intricate or simple designs. Far from an archaic art, inlay has a rich history and has made a lasting impact on the art and design world.
