Section labels are generated using the \label command and can then be referenced using \ref . \section{Example Section} \label{sec:example-section} \ref{sec:example-section} is an example of \texttt{section}.
One of the most useful features of LaTeX is its ability to handle cross-references. To use this, we first define a label at the section (or equation, table, etc.) we want to reference, using the \label{} command, e.g. The argument to the \label command is just a text string that youll use to reference that part.
Using the command \pageref{} you can help the reader to find the referenced object by providing also the page number where it can be found. You could write something like: See figure~\ref{fig:test} on page~\pageref{fig:test}. Following this convention, the label of a figure will look like \label{fig:myfigure} , etc.
Again, the commands \label and \ref are used for references. The label is set after the \section statement, i.e. the \label command should be added after the counter number for the section has been generated. This also works on chapters, subsections and subsubsections. See Sections and chapters.
However, you dont want to be keeping track of the numbers, so you can use a label instead, and let LaTeX replace it with the correct figure number. To add a label, you must embed the following command: \label{marker}. To then reference a label: \ref{marker}. Alternatively, to get a page reference: \pageref{marker}.
LATEX provides a referencing system that allows ref- erencing almost any numbered object in the same document. To do that, the system implements the \label and \ref macros. The \label macro sets a marker that uniquely identifies a numbered ob- ject, which can then be referenced through the \ref macro.
Figures and tables are numbered automatically. The labelling command in LaTeX can be used to index a figure or any other item (e.g., tables, examples, footnotes, etc.) in your document so that you can refer to it later.
It is very common to refer to each of your figures within the body of text. However, you dont want to be keeping track of the numbers, so you can use a label instead, and let LaTeX replace it with the correct figure number. To add a label, you must embed the following command: \label{marker}.
