Hi Iamp;#39;m Carolyn Ricci, Iamp;#39;m at the Zebra Solutions Center today to talk to you about printing and coding on-pitch RFID labels. This is a third in our series, and today weamp;#39;ll be showing you the Avery Dennison 223 inlays. What Iamp;#39;d like to talk about is why this is important. As weamp;#39;re seeing an increase in item level applications, especially in the apparel area, itamp;#39;s becoming more important to be able to print small labels that are spaced very closely together to, number one, lower your overall media costs and increase your throughput in terms of printing and coding, and with the RZ400, we have that capability to print the AD 223 inlays at a 16 millimeter pitch versus having it spaced out at 2 inches apart. Now Iamp;#39;m going to show you how we accomplish the ability to print and encode short pitched labels with the Avery Dennison 223, and the RZ400. Iamp;#39;m going to open the printhead so that you can see inside that weamp;#39;ve made

RFID Inlays: RFID inlays are like RFID tags, but they are smaller and contain only the antenna and the chip. They are designed to be embedded into other objects, such as plastic cards, labels, or packaging materials. RFID inlays can be passive or active, and they can be read over shorter distances than RFID tags.
Going dry. In all, dry inlays allow for greater customization in size and adhesive than wet inlays, letting brands add the benefits of RFID to products not suited to wet inlays. At the same, dry inlays give label printers more potential lines of business. Two of the most common types are called inlays and hard tags. Inlays provide the cheapest option for an RFID system and are typically attached to assets with adhesive. Whereas hard passive tags are rugged and made from materials such as plastic and metal.
Certain RFID inlays are available in standard label sizes, which are most commonly 4x 6 and 4 x 2. These labels are created when manufacturers or label converters embed RFID tags into standard size label paper in order to allow for more space for printable data. RFID chips are often embedded in special tags or labels, each with its own antenna, and these tags can be read by RFID readers. RAIN RFID chips need no dedicated power source to operate; they are powered by the radio waves sent by the RAIN RFID reader.
RFID wet inlays are passive RFID inlays with an adhesive backing that can be either applied to a product directly or converted into smart labels (integrated into a paper or plastic label).
