A comment is optional text information that is embedded in a Zip file. It can be viewed, created, edited, or deleted using the Comment window. Simply type in your text or use any common Windows cut, copy, or paste method.
The ZIP64 format was created in part to remove the size limitations of the standard ZIP format. If your downloaded content is compressed in a ZIP64 format, it should be compatible with all recent Windows and macOS versions and you should be able to open it just like any other ZIP file.
Viewed as an ASCII string this reads PK, the initials of the inventor Phil Katz. Thus, when a ZIP file is viewed in a text editor the first two bytes of the file are usually PK.
The headers are: Local file header Contains metadata about a single file and is followed by the file data. Each file can be compressed and encrypted independently. Central directory file header Contains metadata about a single file and an offset to the Local file header for that file.
PK is the signature of a ZIP file, that is every ZIP file starts with these two characters.
The original version of the format was developed by Phil Katz (hence the PK in PKWARE). ZIPPK combines data compression, file management, and data encryption within a portable archive format.
The ZIP format uses specific 4-byte signatures to denote the various structures in the file. Each file entry is marked by a specific signature. The end of central directory record is indicated with its specific signature, and each entry in the central directory starts with the 4-byte central file header signature.
There is no full form of ZIP. ZIP is a type of archive file format. It supports lossless data compression (meaning, perfect reconstruction of original data from compressed data). A ZIP file may also contain more than one compressed file/directory.
