inlays and onlays are terms that get thrown around quite a bit but basically what they are or porcelain or gold fillings that are made by a lab that we then bond or cement to teeth we use onlays in particular when a regular plastic filling would start to get too big or if a crown would be far too aggressive the way we create these are we work with again a lab that specializes and very technical porcelain work we prepare the tooth for an inlay or an onlay taking impression send that impression to the lab and that can take anywhere from a week to six weeks to get that back depending on the complexity and then we bring you the patient back and cement or bond this filling into the tooth we feel that inlays and onlays are not used nearly enough as a profession we tend to jump straight to a crown but that can be pretty aggressive and we donamp;#39;t need to be that aggressive a lot of the time a porcelain filling with an in liner on leg is a much more conservative way to preserve really goo
