There are single dots on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th, 17th, 19th, and 21st frets. This will all depend on the number of frets your instrument has. Electric guitars have more dots than acoustic guitars. Twenty-four fret guitars have the most dots.
These strings are the same E pitch. The dot at 3rd fret is the note G. The dot at 5th fret is the note A. The dot at 7th fret is the note B. The dot at 9th fret is the note C# The dot at 12th fret is the note E.

What Are The Dots On a Guitar Fretboard Called? The dots on a guitar fretboard are called fret markers or inlays. These dots are to help guitarists find their way around the fretboard. Not all guitars use dots and a wide range of shapes and designs are used.
On guitars and basses, fret markers are usually found on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 15th, 17th, and 19th fret. Guitars and basses often have double dots on the 12th fret to indicate the octave, and 24-fret guitars may have double dots there at the highest fret to indicate two octaves.
The dots on a fretboard are called fret markers or inlays. These are the terms used to refer to these indicators along the guitar's neck. They are used to quickly show you where certain frets are on the guitar. Truth is, most players don't know their purpose.
Often, you can simply pop the new inlays right into the holes. If they're a little tight, use your drill bit to slightly enlarge the hole so the inlays will fit. Turn the drill bit by hand — the drill itself will take away too much too quickly and could damage your fretboard.
There are two dots on the 12th fret on a guitar because that's the point where the notes start repeating from the open string. This is handy to know when you start learning scales because you can reuse the same scale shapes below and above the 12th fret.
Classical guitars (other than low end beginner instruments) don't have fret markers because there is no need of them once a player gets accustomed to the fingerboard.
The 12th fret and 24th frets of a guitar are octaves of the open string you're playing on. For this reason, having two dots on these particular frets makes for an easy reference point. For example, the 12th fret on an E string is also E. After that, the cycle of notes repeats itself.
